An exciting and varied position has become available at Gwent Police, Health and Safety Department. We are looking for an individual to join our forward thinking and expanding team of professionals as we drive towards Gold standard service in the Force. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and willing to help us drive the Department forward.

Your responsibilities as our Health & Safety Advisor will include:

  • Advising the organisation in relation to H&S legislation, regulation and HSE advisory updates, alerting it to any developments that affect the Force directly or indirectly.
  • Helping to develop and implement H&S policy, guidance, and arrangements.
  • Maintaining the current training plan and supporting Induction training of staff and officers.
  • Advising on the introduction of safe operational procedures and arrangements across the organisation which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
  • Maintaining a statistical database of all incidents and accidents, periodically verifying/auditing the accuracy of the information and preparing reports of significant trends within the data
  • Carrying out and report on regular internal audits to check compliance with policies and procedures, proposing necessary changes to working practices
  • Support the Risk Assessment process and consider how risks can be reduced
  • Helping to drive continual improvement through liaison with staff, review meetings and technical support.

We are looking for:

Education level and/or relevant experience(s)

§  Minimum NEBOSH Certificate (NVQ Level 3), potentially working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.

§  2 years of relevant experience in the field working for a large and diverse organisation

§  Active member of a relevant body eg IOSH

Knowledge and skills

§  Ability to work under pressure and still ensure critical dates are met

§  Ability to regularly travel to and from their respective sites often at short notice as well as locations throughout the Force and on occasions throughout the UK

§  Ability to produce excellent non-standard letters, memos and reports for internal and external use in a timely manner.

§  Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken word

§  Ability to follow document control and quality review procedures

§  Ability to quickly understand, adapt to and apply new procedures and systems

§  Strong team member with good organisation and interpersonal skills

§  Able to build lasting relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to raise the profile of the Health and Safety Team

Other requirements

·         Excellent working knowledge of H&S reporting and management systems, as well as ISO45001.

Working knowledge of MS Office
