JOB TITLE: Senior Policy Officer (Criminal Justice)

GRADE: PO3

BASED AT: Cardiff Central Police Station & Bridgend (Travel throughout the South Wales Police area as required

REPORTING TO: Strategic Lead Criminal Justice

HOURS: 37 per week full time

TENURE: 18 months fixed term or secondment from existing employer, by agreement

VETTING: MV/SC

The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 set out in law the reciprocal duty on Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) and other Criminal Justice (CJ) agencies to work together to provide an efficient and effective Criminal Justice System (CJS) for police force areas. You will be part of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s small but dynamic team, working with South Wales Police and other partners contributing to the delivery of priorities that drive crime reduction and public confidence.

This is a key role and will support the Commissioners team in the delivery of both national and local policy objectives through proactively highlighting and proposing strategic solutions to local criminal justice issues and risks along with supporting the implementing of new strategies, policies and development work.

A primary responsibility of this role will be leading on system innovation and enhancing partnership delivery and as such will require a professional, proactive, analytical, self- motivated individual to support and lead on aspects of Criminal Justice portfolio. This individual will need to be a creative problem solver with the ability to navigate challenges and overcome barriers.

As a senior member of the Criminal Justice portfolio the successful applicant will lead on work with stakeholders and partners and be required to have oversight of local activities across the South Wales PCC area, delivering and reporting against the Commissioners Police and Crime Plan objectives. This will involve building on our existing relationships with partners across all sectors and representing the Commissioner’s team at a range of partnership forums.

The role will require you to encompass the wider work of the Commissioners team and as result you will be required to work across a wide range of partnership areas. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the partnership landscape across South Wales, particularly criminal justice, and have a knowledge of policing and Criminal Justice governance structures.

Additionally, they will have experience in influencing, policy development and possess strong leadership and people management skills.

The position is based in South Wales, however remote and agile working is in place, whilst occasional travel to South Wales will be required
