Are you passionate about creating engaging digital content? We are looking for two highly motivated and enthusiastic Digital News Producer’s to proactively source and create innovative and engaging content to support operational policing activity, inform the public and uphold our brand.

What does the Digital News Producer role entail?

The North Wales Police Corporate Communications team is committed to becoming THE trusted source for all police related news within our force area through the use of our social media and other online channels.

Within this role, you’ll be providing speedy, accurate and well-produced information to continually engage with the public, our partners and our staff supporting the force’s vision of preventing crime, protecting the public and helping those in need. The role can be challenging and complicated with strict time constraints and staff regularly having to deal with disturbing cases and issues.

Other duties will include, but not be limited to;

  • Provide filming and editing function for real-time visual content on the force website and social media channels – creating imagery and video content to support news and campaigns.
  • Engage directly with members of the public across social media channels, managing output to effectively address negative impacts on the force’s reputation.
  • Source, research and produce proactive communications opportunities for traditional and social media to reassure the public, promote NWP and combat crime. Create new proactive communications opportunities to engage the public.
  • Recognise and highlight potential media risks or issues, whilst using social media to horizon scan issues of concern to local communities and wider stakeholders to help inform communication activities.
  • Organise press conferences and media briefings where necessary, whilst producing and managing communications strategies.

What will I need to be considered for the Digital News Producer role?

We are looking for a confident, creative individual who is educated to degree level in a relevant subject and/or with extensive experience of working in a busy digital news and media environment, who can use digital editing software for maximum impact and is confident to ‘self-shoot’ on mobile devices.

Journalism experience, together with a sound knowledge of media law is essential, as is the ability to work on your own initiative, to tight deadlines. The nature of our work means that you must be able to work reactively during major incidents, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and discretion. You will also be confident that you can deal with enquiries from local and national media outlets, draft statements, organise press conferences and provide media training and advice to officers.

You will be part of an out of hours on call rota and as such the ability to travel and work unsocial hours is a requirement of this role.

North Wales Police are a bilingual organisation and for this role, you’ll need to demonstrate Level 3 Welsh skills, which means you’re able to converse partly in Welsh and write informal communications. You can find out more by visiting our Welsh Language Resources Page.

Due to the sensitive and secret nature of some aspects of this post, the post holder will be subject to an increased level of security vetting.

Please note the successful applicant(s) will be required to provide a 12 month commitment to this role.
