Full and Part-time roles available

Start date 10th July 2023

Are you passionate about working in the heart of our community?  Would you be proud to offer a visible and accessible uniformed presence in the community, focusing on improving quality of life for the public?

You’ll patrol the streets, engage with the community, investigate crimes, maybe even chase people from time to time. But many people don’t realise how much time is spent pro-actively problem solving. Community-oriented policing focuses on helping people stay out of the criminal justice system, rather than on putting them into it.

Are you a good problem solver? Do you want to make a difference in your community? If you thrive on variety and challenge then this is the role for you!

North Wales Police is looking to further develop its links with the local communities by building long term working partnerships with Neighbourhood Policing Teams. The role of PCSO is vital and unique, designed to tackle anti-social behaviour and local issues affecting the quality of life. Their focus is on crime prevention.

We are also running an online Discovery Session on Teams where you can hear directly form some of our current serving PCSO's and a member of the recruitment team. It's on Wednesday 25th January at 1730, link below:

Following your application we will contact you to find out your working availability which will include days of the week, working times, location and also any preferred working patterns for example term-time only or working during school holidays .

We will only be able to confirm your contracted hours/days/location following your successful pre-employment checks.

We are #oneteam at North Wales Police and for your commitment you will receive some of the below rewards;

  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
  • Access to on-site gyms and fitness classes
  • Option to become a member of UNISON, the public service union
  • Discounts from various retailers via the Blue Light Scheme
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Support from our Health and Wellbeing Centre including Welfare Officers, Counselling, Physiotherapy and Mental Health Peer Supporters and not forgetting our wellbeing dog
  • Pension scheme
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Generous maternity/paternity and adoption leave entitlements
  • Sick pay provisions

What training will I get?

New PCSOs receive nine weeks of initial training (this will be Monday-Friday for both full and part-time roles), involving role plays and practical sessions to really make sure you understand everything fully. You’ll come out of it with the essential skills and knowledge that you need to move forwards. And not only that - sharing this experience with your classmates can build strong relationships that last well into your future career.

You’ll also have either three or five days of Welsh training, depending on your current language level.

For the next six weeks you’ll be mentored by a PCSO who is trained as a tutor. During this time you’ll be able to put your new skills into practice, under the observation of your experienced colleague.

At the end of the six week phase your tutor will assess you – if you’re ready, you’ll be assigned to your new rota. You can now start going out on independent patrol!

North Wales Police are a bilingual organisation and actively encourage all our staff and officers to use Welsh in their daily lives at work. For this role, you’ll need to demonstrate Level 2 Welsh skills, which means you’re able to give and ask for personal details and basic information; to make simple requests and say a few phrases about yourself in Welsh. We do offer support and guidance to help you achieve the required level, you can find out more by visiting our Welsh Language Resources Page.

Positive Action - are you eligible?
