We are currently recruiting for both a Fingerprint Officer and a Fingerprint Expert.

Fingerprint Officer - Scale SO1: £33,915-£35,982

Fingerprint Expert - Scale SO2: £36,996-£39,036


What does the Fingerprint Bureau do?

The Fingerprint Bureau analyses and compares ridge detail recovered from exhibits and crime scenes manually and electronically to identify possible offenders as well as to eliminate people.  There is also a requirement to maintain the Fingerprint Collection both manually and electronically using the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System.

What will I need to be considered for the role of Fingerprint Officer?

You will need to have all the the below to apply for this role:

  1. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
  2. To be computer literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and preferably SharePoint.
  3. Appreciate of the integrity of evidence and the need for confidentiality
  4. Knowledge of Health and Safety, Equal opportunities, Diversity and Data Protection Legislation/issues.
  5. The post holder will be required to drive Force vehicles, therefore must hold a full driving licence.
  6. Demonstrate an ability to work under increasing pressure demonstrating the ability to organise and prioritise own workload within a team process to deliver a quality service and to meet given deadlines and objectives.
  7. Awareness of Fingerprint Law including PoFA.
  8. Assist in the production of clear and concise documented procedures, policies, and processes.

For the Non Expert role, you must also have the following (Salary Scale SO1):

  1. At least two years’ experience in a fingerprint environment.
  2. Passed or be prepared to pass an Advance Fingerprint Course/assessment.
  3. IT skills to include relevant Police IT systems i.e., PNC, RMS, Locard and Ident 1.
  4. Good communication skills.
  5. Ability to meet given targets/deadlines.

For the Expert role, you must also have the following (Salary Scale SO2):

  1. At least three years’ experience in a fingerprint environment preferably with one years’ experience at Grade SO1 or be able to evidence the ability to work at this level.
  2. Evidence of good interpersonal and communication skills using all methods at a variety of levels.

        North Wales Police are a bilingual organisation and for this role, you’ll need to demonstrate Level 2 Spoken Welsh skills, which means you’re able to give and ask for personal details and basic information; to make simple requests and say a few phrases about yourself in Welsh.
