The post holder will be required:

 

North Wales Police (NWP) has 3 main Custody Suites at Caernarfon, St. Asaph and Llay. Persons detained by police for a wide range of offences are not normally kept in custody beyond 24 hours. Whilst in custody, their detention and treatment is governed by the requirements of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Codes of Practice Code C) which includes access to medical care. 

The standards for the role of custody nurse are set using the HMIP/HMIC Expectations for Police Custody, Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) Code C in England and Wales, Authorised Professional Practice 2014 and NMC CODE OF PRACTICE and the National Occupational Standards for Healthcare Professionals working in Police Custody.

 

Level 2 Welsh language skills are essential for this post. Please refer to the NWP Welsh Language Skills Policy for details on your eligibility criteria and learning commitments throughout probation.

 

North Wales Police is committed to being a bilingual organisation. You will therefore be expected to demonstrate a positive approach towards the Welsh Language. In accordance with the North Wales Police Welsh Language Skills Policy prior to an offer of appointment being made, if you do not already speak Welsh you will be required to achieve Level 2 in spoken Welsh. In essence this means that you can understand and pronounce Welsh place names and peoples’ names as well as an ability to understand and use simple everyday spoken Welsh phrases. All the support material required to satisfy this requirement is available on the Force Website. You will also be required to demonstrate Level 3 spoken skills during your probation period, for which you will be fully supported.

 

Please note the successful applicant(s) will be required to provide a 12 month commitment to this role.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your Managers have sufficient time to complete the relevant section of the form, ensuring it reaches the SSF prior to the closing date. Applications submitted without this will not be processed.

This is a full time post however staff members interested in job share are welcome to apply. NWP Staff within a probationary period or who are subject to a time commitment in their current role which still applies are not permitted to apply.

 

Applicants that have previously applied for this role and have been unsuccessful within the last 6 months are not eligible to apply.

 

Special Officers who have achieved Independent Patrol Status and have continued to work the minimum number of duty hours per week (4 hours) may apply for internal police staff vacancies.

 

Current Agency Staff with more than 12 continuous months’ service (as at publication date of advert) are permitted to apply for this vacancy.
