Deputy Chief Constable

South Wales Police is pleased to invite applications for the post of Deputy Chief Constable.

If successful you will be joining the busiest force in Wales and one of the best performing forces in the UK. Covering 10% of the Welsh landmass, the force is home to 42% of the population of Wales (1.3 million residents). South Wales is a diverse region, boasting urban, rural and coastal areas and featuring the two largest cities in Wales – Swansea and the capital city, Cardiff. Serving 63 of the 100 most deprived communities in Wales the force accounts for 49% of recorded crime in the principality. South Wales Police plays a key role in the South Wales economy, regularly supporting major sporting and cultural events.

With the engagement of almost 3000 police officers and over 2200 police staff, the force has made great strides in delivering its vision – to be the best at understanding and responding to our communities’ needs.

We are therefore looking for someone who can work with a talented senior team to promote a culture of trust, innovation and high performance through our people and use of technology.

Applicants must have successfully completed the Strategic Command Course. Non United Kingdom applicants must have served in an approved overseas police force rank. Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.

The annual salary is £131,067 and a car is provided for duty use (and private use subject to private running costs and tax being met by the post holder).   The successful candidate will be expected to reside within the force area following appointment. The appointment will be in accordance with Police Regulations.

Applicants should already hold MV/SC clearance and there is a requirement to be vetted to DV level on appointment. The required employment checks will be carried out prior to appointment.

The post holder will be expected to have at least a level 2 standard to communicate in the Welsh language or achieve it within 2 years of taking up the post.
