JOB TITLE: Strategic Lead – Substance Misuse

GRADE: PO4/5 £41,718 - £47,058

BASED AT: Bridgend Headquarters with a requirement to cover the South Wales Police Force area (flexible and agile working in place).

REPORTING TO: Director, Partnership and Programmes

HOURS: 37 per week

TENURE: 2 year fixed term contract (a 24 month secondment would be considered for this role)

VETTING: MV/SC level

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the vision of the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, taking action to support those with substance misuse needs across the South Wales Police force area.

We are seeking to appoint a Strategic Lead who will be responsible for the development of strategic policy and managing commissioned services day-to-day management at a South Wales level. We are looking for someone who has ambition to change how substance misuse is tackled across South Wales, with experience of change management and transformation.

The successful applicant will be someone who has extensive experience and insight relating to substance misuse with a demonstratable understanding of local and national emerging contemporary issues, the political and partnership landscape across South Wales and the role and responsibilities of the Police and Crime Commissioner within this landscape.

As the strategic lead, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic direction for this policy area, as well as overseeing the delivery of commissioned services. You will be responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with partners across a variety of sectors to identify opportunities for enhancing service provision to support those with substance misuse needs. You will also be responsible for building effective relationships within a supporting team and with colleagues within the wider Commissioner’s team, to ensure that initiatives are aligned across policy areas to meet the objectives within the Police and Crime Plan.

You will need experience in negotiating and influencing, policy development and possess strong leadership and people management skills, as well as having a dynamic, resilient and proactive approach to partnership working.

The position is based in South Wales, however remote and agile working is in place, whilst occasional travel beyond South Wales will be required.
