The role

We are seeking an experienced Desktop & Device Specialist to join our ICT Department at South Wales Police. You will provide hands-on support and technical assistance for end user platforms whilst ensuring the smooth operation of computer, radio, smart phone, and telephony systems within the South Wales Police force area. The candidate should be familiar with HP PC hardware, Microsoft Windows 10, and device management solutions and have knowledge of the various hardware, software, peripherals, and application delivery and support technologies used by the Force.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist, develop and support all aspects of the Devices / Desktop team in line with the policies and business objectives of the organisation.
  • To manage the day-to-day workloads of Senior Officers and engineers.
  • To advise the force on all their End User devices and act as the Quality Assurer on these and other related products and services.
  • 3rd line responsibility for designated technical functions including management of 2nd line technical staff
  • To provide technical and strategical advice to management and business area leaders

Requirements:

  • Must be qualified to HND or related equivalent qualification in Information Technology or be able to demonstrate relevant experience.
  • Experience of Windows 10, Azure, SCCM and other management tools
  • Proven experience of Strategic IT Planning in the context of a formal project.
  • Must have experience of supervising the support and maintenance of end user devices.
  • Must demonstrate previous experience of staff supervision
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills enabling complex information to be effectively communicated to diverse audiences.

The ICT Desktop & Device Specialist sits within the department’s Technical Delivery section and reports to the ICT Devices Manager.
