South Wales Police brings together thousands of people with the same aim – to keep South Wales safe.

We want to be the best at understanding and responding to our community’s needs. To do this we need the very best candidates from a wide range of backgrounds to become part of our policing family.

The South Wales Police Internship gives you the opportunity to put your academic knowledge to the test in a practical and professional setting where you will gain valuable work experience and training. You can be confident that throughout your internship you will be supported by an expert team who will encourage you to fulfil your potential.

Becoming part of #TeamSWP will offer you a unique learning experience where you will contribute to real life projects in a complex and diverse environment. We value individuality and encourage new ideas and creativity that will contribute to our success as a force and make a difference to society.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work in the Joint Legal Services team for 12 months during which you will undertake a variety of support and research tasks to assist in the contentious and non-contentious work of the team (which include contracts, employment, commercial property, operational policing law and litigation). The Joint Legal Service advises both Gwent Police and South Wales Police and as such you may be working in both force areas.

The internship will commence in September 2023 and to be eligible you will have completed or be currently studying for a degree in Law, or have graduated in the last 3 years. You will need to have excellent IT skills and be able to collect, compile, process and present information in a structured manner. You will need excellent communication skills and be naturally inquisitive, confident to challenge and to be challenged but in a professional manner.

There are numerous benefits to working for South Wales Police, from learning and development opportunities to schemes which aim to improve your lifestyle and wellbeing, as well as generous Local Government Pension Scheme / Police Pension Schemes, paid annual leave, flexible working and family friendly policies and many more, click here for more information.

Interviews for this post are expected to take place in January 2023.
