An exciting secondment opportunity for up to 12 months in South Wales Police with the creation of a brand-new team to be at the forefront of shaping policing’s adoption of emerging biometrics.

We are looking for a dynamic team of specialists, supported by agile working for the National Biometrics Function (NBF) The specialist team will support the review, design and develop proposals for a cohesive UK law enforcement capability for biometrics with specific emphasis on emerging biometrics and the evolution of traditional structures.

Initially focusing on assisting Forces to deliver Retrospective Facial Recognition (RFR) by supporting local and regional implementation teams to achieve the considerable operational benefits and financial efficiencies from this using this technology. This specialist team will also provide a coordination function to support the NPCC National Biometrics Strategy Board, its programme as well as subsidiary Committee structures.

 

Biometrics Capability Lead – Chief Inspector

To lead on the review, design and develop proposals for a cohesive UK law enforcement capability for biometrics with specific emphasis on emerging biometrics and the evolution of traditional structures. Working closely with the chair NPCC National Biometrics Strategy Board, Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan

The successful candidate must be of Chief Inspector rank and have experience of leading demanding projects working with partnerships at a senior level as well as a firm understanding of emerging biometrics and related implications under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018

Please be aware that if you have been successful at force promotion boards, from date of confirmation of promotion/posting, you are no longer eligible to apply for any other/specialist roles. 

If you have been promoted as Sergeant/Inspector, you must have completed your Work Based Assessment (WBA) before you are eligible to apply for specialist roles. 

You must be a substantive Constable (having completed 2 years’ probation). 

If you are a Transferee, you must have completed 2 years’ service with South Wales Police before applying for any specialist roles. 

If you are currently involved in an ongoing PSD Investigation, then you will not be eligible to apply for this role

The successful candidate must be prepared to undergo vetting to MV/SC level
