A rare and exciting opportunity exists to become part of the Joint Scientific Investigation Unit of South Wales and Gwent Police. The role is based in South Wales Police Headquarters, Bridgend. Working as a Forensic Laboratory Officer in the Fingerprint Development Unit, you will be part of a fast paced team that is integral to the forensic capability of South Wales and Gwent Police. You will utilise a broad range of physical and chemical techniques, including the latest technology in the field, to develop, search for, and capture finger-marks. The finger-marks you capture can be used to link individuals to the crime being investigated. Following procedures accredited to the quality standard ISO17025, your keen attention to detail and enthusiasm for Forensic Science will be invaluable to your success. The role will involve applying the specialist laboratory techniques in challenging environments at scenes of crime, making your understanding of the techniques and health and safety a priority. You will work closely with other forensic departments and provide information and advice to investigators, so verbal and written communication will be key skills.

This role is not suitable for part time/job share workers due to operational requirements.

The successful Candidate must be willing to undergo vetting to RV Vetting.

Please be aware that if your current post is within the Public Service Centre, if you were employed after 1st February 2017 you must have completed 2 years’ tenured service before applying for any other roles.
